Highlight Tackle By Rivers

Holy crap, did you guys see that tackle by Philip Rivers after the Sproles fumble?

The Chargers were leading 7-0 late in the 2nd quarter with the ball on the Cowboys 18, Rivers threw a short pass to Sproles then fumbled when hit by the Cowboys linebacker.  Church picked up the ball and ran it back weaving in and out traffic when Rivers raced in and made a highlight tackle that you only see from a great defensive tackler.

Maybe they should send a tape of that play to Antonio Cromartie to learn from. Anyways Philip, that was a great play, shows a lot of heart but WTF, don't do it again. Scared the crap out of the coaches and us fans.

Marcus McNeill Meets With A.J.

Holdout left tackle Marcus McNeill met with Chargers GM A.J. Smith on Wednesday. The Chargers threatened to place MCNeill on the roster exempt list if he doesn't sign his tender by Friday, this means that if he is placed on the roster exempt list that he would face a 3-game suspension when he signs.

No one really knows what the outcome of the meeting was, but at least both sides are talking, that's an improvement.

Chargers Beat The Bears...

We all saw the first preseason game this past weekend, what do you guys think?

Offense: I don't need to say anything about Philip Rivers, except he is an elite QB. I don't need to say anything about Antonio Gates, except he is the best tight-end in the game. Ryan Mathews, I thought was impressive in his preseason debut. He looked fast and strong, see a little bit of that old LT but look stronger. The receiving corp looked great even without VJ. Legedu Nanee did a great job, they will really need him to step up this year along with Floyd and Davis. The offensive line looked small, but I think they'll do just fine. Dombroski, I think will do great on left-tackle position. The whole offense looked good, but what really impressed me was FB Mike Tolbert. He put on a little bit of weight and sure made a lot of difference, I can't wait to see him in the regular season just running over people.

Defense: I thought the D-line did a great job along with our linebacking crew, six sacks in the game. The secondary is what worries me, they are young and inexperience except for Quentin Jammer, they really need that strong safety that would put a hurt on someone going down the middle, we'll just have to wait and see what happens as the preseason comes along.

Special Teams: I think they'll still be good even without Kassim Osgood, who went to the Jags. We'll still have the best kicker in the game in Kaeding and we'll still have the best punter in the game in Scifres.

All this said, it is just a preseason game. All this really means nothing until the real season starts. Tell me what you all think.....

Shawne Merriman To Report To Camp

According to league sources, Shawne Merriman is planning to sign his $3,269,000 tender and report to Charger camp by this weekend. I feel this is a good move by Lights Out because if he wants big money, he needs to  have a big year. He got his career in a great start with 39.5 sacks from 2005 through 2007 until he hurt his knee. Since then, his production has fallen off. So, this is an important year for Merriman if he is looking for that big contract.

Now that we're getting Shawne Merriman back, there are two more key players that we need to report to camp, Marcus McNeil and Vincent Jackson.

Chargers Sign Strong Safety, Quinton Teal

The San Diego Chargers signed the 26-year-old, 6 foot, 205-pound strong safety Quinton Teal to a two-year contract.

The strong safety is entering his 4th year in the NFL and played the previous three seasons with the Carolina Panthers. He played in all 16 games with the Panthers last year, starting three and had 20 tackles. During his previous 3 seasons with the Panthers, Quinton Teal racked up 45 stops.

Quinton Teal gives the Chargers good depth at the safety position, where the team is fairly thin. The Chargers could also use Teal in the special team.

LT And Chargers, Let's Move On..

Too much is being made of what Rivers and Gates have said about playing the LT, but it's nothing compared to what LT has said about the team a week after his release.

Come on guys, it's a new season, let's put this all behind us and concentrate on the task at hand. As a Chargers' fan I would very much like this to stop now, LT is well loved by fans such as myself, I just would like this to stop before it gets worse.

Many of us fans have been waiting to get this season started, so everyone needs to stop talking and play some FOOTBALL.
